5 Areas of Focus for Technology
Through the use of technology, students practice and gain the skills needed to communicate effectively, manage their own time and organize themselves with real purpose. Students use Gmail, Google Drive and Google Docs to communicate their ideas and needs. Independence is promoted as students gain communication and time management skills that can be applied to all areas of their lives.
Executive Functioning Skills
Today’s students need to be able to initiate tasks, manage their time, gather and organize information and evaluate their performance. Technology plays a major role in the organization of those skills in society today. Using Gmail, Google Calendar and the Internet can help students gain the life skills needed to function successfully in today’s society.
Monitoring of Student Work Without Interference
Security is always a concern when dealing with our society’s youth and the ever advancing technology that they have access to. By utilizing a system like Google’s Application platform we can monitor student activity without interfering with their ability to use the technology itself. We can control downloads and restrict access to dangerous sites. Through Google Cloud technology we are also able to remotely aid students and provide support both within and outside the academy.
Developing Self-Confidence Through Technology Skills
An understanding of and ability to use today’s ever-changing technology promotes self-confidence. Learning how to find valid and trusted information on the Internet is a skill. The effective use of technology helps students articulate their ideas and problem solve. Students build self-confidence as they learn to independently manage multiple tasks, seek information and communicate their ideas through technology.
Participation in a Global Society
Utilizing tools such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Google Docs allows students to become proficient in the same applications they will encounter and need to use in the real world. Combining fluency in today’s technology with an advanced understanding of the Internet is an equation for successfully integrating each student into global society.
