BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

We are firm believers that effective learning extends beyond the classroom. Here at Metro we provide a variety of learning experiences apart from our academic classes. We regularly bring experts from the community into the school to share their knowledge and experience with us. We also regularly take our students on field trips to apply and integrate their learning in an authentic context. Each week we have clubs that enrich students’ learning. If our club offerings do not match the need or interests of your child, we are more than happy to assist in finding programs that work best for them!

CLUBS

Social Club:

Social Club will give our students an opportunity to interact with peers out in community-based settings outside of the school. In this club students will be able to practice “hanging out,” build on school-based relationships and increase confidence in community spaces.

Chess Club:

Chess club is for anyone who wants to learn how to play, or anyone who already knows how to play this great game. In chess club students will learn about strategy and practice problem solving skills. Fun and casually competitive games will help student build interpersonal communication skills.

Coding Club:

Coding Club will introduce students into the world of programming and coding, and allow them to learn and create new things using Scratch, Code.Org, and Block Coding. Students will learn about problem solving and order of operations for computers as well as gain competency in an important 21st century skill through fun games and team work!

Running Club:

Running club is a great opportunity for students to develop their understanding of the mind-body connection. In this club students will play games and complete challenges independently and in teams. Running club is great for breaking a sweat and having fun!

Music Lessons:

Private piano lessons are offered after school Monday through Thursday. Students will develop rhythm skills, learn to read music, and learn about different composers while having the opportunity to explore their creativity and originality.
